Los problemas del centro del campo del Manchester United volvieron a quedar al descubierto en el empate 2-2 con el Aston Villa el sábado por la noche.
Aunque Bruno Fernandes impresionó con un brillante doblete, tanto Fred como Nemanja Matic pasaron apuros mientras los anfitriones montaban una emocionante remontada para conseguir un punto.
Con un United débil en el centro del campo, especialmente en comparación con sus rivales, los rumores sobre un posible fichaje de Haidara han empezado a cobrar fuerza.
Rangnick conoce bien al jugador, ya que ayudó a reclutarlo para el Red Bull Salzburg antes de llevarlo al Leipzig.
Y el periodista Jonathan Shrager ha afirmado que el United está en “diálogo abierto” con el Leipzig para intentar traer al jugador de 23 años.
Sin embargo, el United tiene un pobre historial cuando se trata de fichar a jugadores de la Bundesliga.
Jadon Sancho llegó desde el Borussia Dortmund en la ventana de transferencia de verano por la enorme cantidad de 73 millones de libras, después de haber estado en el radar del club durante varios años.
Sin embargo, el internacional inglés ha sido una gran decepción, ya que sólo ha marcado un gol en la Premier League esta temporada.
Antes de Sancho, el United fichó a jugadores de la talla de Henrikh Mkhitaryan y Shinji Kagawa, procedentes también del Dortmund.
Sin embargo, Mkhitaryan nunca exhibió su mejor fútbol a las órdenes de José Mourinho, antes de marcharse al Arsenal como parte del intercambio de Alexis Sánchez hace cuatro años.
Y Kagawa no logró destacarse antes de ser cortado por Louis van Gaal, después de haber trabajado a las órdenes de David Moyes y Sir Alex Ferguson.
El United también ha fichado en el pasado a los héroes del Bayern de Múnich Owen Hargreaves y Bastian Schweinsteiger.
Sin embargo, ambos jugadores pasaron más tiempo en los banquillos que en el campo antes de abandonar Old Trafford.
Haidara es uno de los varios jugadores que han sido vinculados con el United, que busca mejorar sus opciones en el centro del campo.
El club es admirador desde hace mucho tiempo de Jude Bellingham, y ya intentó hacerse con él en la ventana de transferencia de verano de 2020.
Sin embargo, al final no lo consiguieron, ya que Bellingham optó por dejar el Birmingham City para irse al Dortmund.
Y aunque al United le encantaría fichar a Declan Rice, su enorme precio de 80 millones de libras hace que cualquier traspaso sea difícil de negociar.
Mientras tanto, Rangnick lamentó el fracaso del United en el partido contra el Villa tras el 2-2 del sábado por la noche.
“[I am] completamente decepcionado por el resultado”, dijo.
“Después de ir ganando 2-0 en el minuto 70 tienes que estar decepcionado y ahora es difícil hablar de los aspectos positivos, pero sigo creyendo que hoy hemos mostrado bastantes cosas positivas.
“En la primera media hora dominamos el partido, fue nuestra mejor actuación con el balón, podríamos haber estado dos o tres a cero arriba en la primera media hora.
“En esos últimos 15 minutos volvimos a demostrar que si abrimos el espacio, si no somos lo suficientemente compactos, otros equipos pueden crear ocasiones, que es lo que ocurrió.
“Pero aun así, 1-0 al descanso y en la segunda parte de nuevo fuimos más compactos, tuvimos más control sobre el juego y marcamos el segundo gol a los 70 minutos.
“Entonces hay que esperar que un equipo experimentado como el que tenemos sea capaz de llevarse los tres puntos a casa”.
Luego añadió: “Haber perdido contra el Wolves, hoy sólo un punto, no es suficiente.
“Esto es exactamente lo que se siente en este momento. Pero de nuevo, tenemos que tomar las cosas buenas en el próximo par de juegos y mostrar y desarrollar y construir sobre eso.”
